Rakhi Sarkar
Rakhi comes to Room to Read with more than 27 years of experience in the development sector, out of which 17 years has been as a Country Director in Bangladesh representing, leading and developing teams, and executing country and regional strategies. Rakhi has worked in a wide variety of sectors including education, health, children's rights, refugee, migration, youth, gender, governance and humanitarian response.
Prior to joining Room to Read, Rakhi worked for Voluntary Services Organization (VSO), the world's leading organization that works to fight poverty and address inequality in developing countries. She started working with VSO in India as a Program Officer and has represented VSO as Country Director since 2005 in various countries including Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Thailand, Myanmar and Laos. Rakhi holds a post graduate degree in Rural Development from Xavier Institute of Social Services in Ranchi, and a masters in NGO Management from Open University, London as well as in Human Resource Development from Birla Institute of Liberal Arts and Management Sciences in Kolkata. She previously held roles with the Catholic Relief Services and Child Rights and You.
