Room to Read Bangladesh was officially established in 2008, and program operations launched one year later. Our Literacy Program encourages fluency and informs national curriculum, while our Girls’ Education Program builds upon the development of life skills to help girls graduate and negotiate key decisions.

Protecting children's futures in Bangladesh

In recent decades, Bangladesh has made important strides in increasing primary school enrollment for students living in even the most marginalized communities.

Still, much of this progress is at risk. The pandemic, recent inflation, worsening climate disasters and the ongoing influx of Rohingya refugee families fleeing persecution in neighboring Myanmar have resulted in unprecedented learning loss for children across Bangladesh. Many young children risk never learning the foundational skills they need to thrive.

“We just want all children to have access to quality education. That's what drives us.”

Rakhi Sarkar, Bangladesh Country Director
