Room to Read has worked very closely with the government in this effort since we began our work in Laos in 2005. Our focus in the country has been on improving infrastructure, providing access to quality learning materials and supporting children at risk of dropping out of school in the most underserved areas of the country.
Laos
Room to Read's technical expertise in effective literacy instruction and curriculum positions us to scale our Literacy Program in Laos. We support the Laos Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport in improving literacy learning outcomes, paying particular attention to historically disadvantaged groups. Our teacher trainings support teachers and principals in meeting national teaching standards.
In partnership with the government, our Girls' Education Program supports girls to build the life skills they need to succeed in school and make key life decisions by providing them with a robust life skills curriculum, mentorship and peer support, and family and community engagement. We are currently advancing the evidence base for our proven model with the goal of integration into the government’s national curriculum revision.
