Over the decades, Room to Read has become a trusted partner to Vietnam’s Ministry of Education and Training (MoET). Our Literacy Program and Girls’ Education Program are recognized as the most affordable and scalable interventions that improve educational outcomes. This foundational work is essential in addressing — and mitigating — recent learning losses, including poor reading habits and disproportionate dropout rates for girls.

While Vietnam has grown substantially in recent decades, complex barriers to education remain for too many children. Historically low-income communities across Vietnam are particularly vulnerable to climate change, and the country's recent economic shifts have affected families’ abilities to invest in their children’s education.

Room to Read implemented our Literacy Program in Vietnam in 2001. Today, we are a trusted partner to the Vietnamese government, which recognizes that education is the cornerstone of prosperity. Still, with limited budgets and persistent capacity issues, provinces across Vietnam struggle to adhere to the national government's vision for improved education standards. Room to Read supports our government partners by equipping every province to systemically improve how students learn to read, write and gain essential life skills.
